British bass-baritone Thomas Isherwood is a versatile young artist whose repertoire spans opera, concert, oratorio and musical theatre, with a particular interest in the dramatic bass-baritone repertoire of Mozart, Verdi, Wagner and Puccini.
Biography
Thomas trained at the Royal Northern College of Music, Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal College of Music, where he was a member of the International Opera Studio.
His recent operatic engagements include performances with Grange Park Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and The Opera Makers. At Grange Park Opera, he made his professional debut in 2015, appearing alongside Sir Bryn Terfel in Fiddler on the Roof before performing Happy in Puccini’s La fanciulla del West. He returned to the company in 2023 as Sciarrone in Tosca and Steuermann in Tristan und Isolde, and in 2026 made his principal role debut as Donner in Wagner’s Das Rheingold, as part of Grange Park Opera’s new production of Der Ring des Nibelungen.
At Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Thomas has appeared as a member of the Festival Chorus and as a featured soloist in The Wreckers, Le nozze di Figaro, La bohème and Mozart’s Requiem on tour. His work with Glyndebourne has also included community outreach performances of excerpts from the Requiem for local schoolchildren.
Other operatic highlights include Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, directed by Sir Thomas Allen, and Marcello in La bohème for The King’s Head Theatre at the Trafalgar Studios. He reprised the role in their Olivier Award-nominated production at Grimeborn Festival, which subsequently won Best Opera Production at the 2025 Off West End Awards.

On the concert platform, Thomas has performed Handel’s Messiah at Canterbury Cathedral and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with Hampstead Chorus, while his musical theatre work includes Javert in Les Misérables with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra and the title role in Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
Alongside his operatic career, Thomas maintains a strong interest in the art song repertoire and has a true passion for bringing classical music to new audiences through accessible programming, captivating storytelling and emotionally communicative performance.
