Samantha Hargreaves is a Filipino-Australian soprano rapidly establishing herself on both national and international stages. Based in Munich, she is recognised for her artistry, clarity of tone and versatility across operatic and contemporary repertoire. Having completed the Opera Artist Master’s programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, Samantha continues to build an international career across Europe and Australia.
In the 2026/27 season Samantha will make her debut with Theater Basel as Maria in Barrie Kosky’s acclaimed production of West Side Story.
Recent engagements include covering the role of Vespetta in Telemann’s Pimpinone at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Theatre and appearing as a 2025 Emerging Artist with Longborough Festival Opera, performing in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Throughout her training she performed the roles of Adele in Die Fledermaus, Oberto in Alcina, Mary Crawford in Mansfield Park, Hannchen in Die Opernprobe and Reserl in Der häusliche Krieg.
A passionate advocate for Australian music, Samantha has collaborated with Lyric Opera of Melbourne in performances of unpublished songs by Peggy Glanville-Hicks and Anne Cawrse’s song cycle This Too Shall Pass. In 2024 she made her professional operatic debut at the Sydney Opera House, creating the role of Sarah-Marie in Three Marys, a chamber opera by Andrée Greenwell and Christine Evans.
Samantha’s concert appearances include soloist performances in Haydn’s Kleine Orgelmesse, Fauré’s Requiem, Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music and Mozart’s Coronation Mass. She is distinguished by expressive musicality, clear text and a strong instinct for character.
Samantha has received numerous awards and scholarships. She won the John Fulford Prize at the Herald Sun Aria Competition and was an artist with Melba Opera Trust. She is a recipient of the Opera Europa Eva Kleinitz Scholarship and has also received support from The Tait Memorial Trust, The Australian Music Foundation and The University of Melbourne. In 2024 she undertook advanced study in Italy with soprano Valeria Esposito, funded by The Acclaim Awards.
