Irish mezzo-soprano Deirdre Arratoon is gaining recognition for a voice described as rich, velvety and full of expression. Based in the UK, she performs widely across the UK and Ireland in both operatic and concert repertoire. She is the current recipient of the Bernadette Greevy Bursary, awarded by the National Concert Hall, Dublin. The award includes a recital in the John Field Room at the National Concert Hall, scheduled for 2027.
Recent operatic highlights include the title role in Carmen with Opera South East, Zita in Gianni Schicchi at Wexford Festival Opera, and Alise in Barefoot Opera’s touring production of Lucia di Lammermoor. She has appeared with Opera Holland Park in The Flying Dutchman and with Irish National Opera in Madama Butterfly. Other engagements include the Older Woman in Flight on tour with Opera Collective Ireland and the Fairy in Alma Deutscher’s Cinderella at Wexford Festival Opera.
Deirdre has also worked with The Grange Festival, covering Dorabella in Così fan tutte and returning in 2026 to cover Larina in Eugene Onegin. She began her professional career as a member of the chorus of Glyndebourne Festival Opera during the 2017 Festival and Tour.
Alongside her operatic work, Deirdre is active as a concert soloist. Recent performances include Verdi’s Requiem with Arun Choral Society and the Sinfonia of Arun, alongside a wide range of repertoire including works by Bach, Mozart, Dvořák, Haydn and Pergolesi. She will make her first appearance as soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland at the National Concert Hall, Dublin on 13 July 2026.
Deirdre trained privately in Ireland before undertaking postgraduate studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on scholarship, where she was awarded both the Ashleyan Opera Prize and the Cecil Drew Oratorio Prize.
