British mezzo-soprano Anna Elizabeth Cooper is an English National Opera Harewood Artist. This season she performed Nancy in Albert Herring, and covered Rosmira in Partenope and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. Upcoming engagements include Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel for Longborough’s Playground Opera Festival, Cherubino with Bijou Opera, and Lola in Cavalleria rusticana with Northern Chamber Orchestra.
She made her Glyndebourne Festival debut as Hippolyta in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and performed Soeur Alice in Barrie Kosky’s production of Dialogues des Carmélites at Glyndebourne and the BBC Proms. She also covered Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte.
Anna trained at the Royal College of Music Opera Studio, supported by the Stephen Catto Memorial Fund, Help Musicians UK, the Mario Lanza Foundation, Il Circolo Trust, and Rosehill Theatre. She previously studied at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music. Roles at RCM include Concepción in L’heure espagnole, Lisetta in Il mondo della luna, Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti, and Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, directed by Sir Thomas Allen.
Additional operatic work includes Ernestina in L’occasione fa il ladro and Tisbe in La Cenerentola for British Youth Opera, the title role in Joe Kiely’s Amira, and Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus at Berlin Opera Academy, alongside appearances with the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company.
Anna is a winner of the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards and a prize recipient at the Patricia Rutledge and Brooks–Van der Pump English Song Competitions. She was also an Opera Prelude Young Artist. On the concert platform, she has appeared with the London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Cadogan Hall, and the Hallé Orchestra under Sir Mark Elder.
