Der australische Bass Karl Huml lebt in Wien, wo er viele Jahre an der Wiener Volksoper unter Vertrag stand. Zu diesem Unternehmen gehörten seine Rollen, Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro, Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Colline in La Bohème und Quitte in Ein Sommernachtstraum.

Zuvor war Karl House House am Bremer Theater, wo er Ramfis in Aida, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Colline in La Bohème, Don Basilio in Il Barbière von Siviglia, Colatinus in Die Vergewaltigung von Lucretia, Ferrando in Il trovatore, Frère Laurent in sang Roméo et Juliette, Timur in Turandot, Snug / Theseus in Ein Sommernachtstraum, Einsiedler im Freischütz, Tod in Kaiser von Atlantis (eine Rolle, die er in Biel wiederholt hat) und die Titelrolle in Don Quichotte.

Als Preisträger des Deutschen Opernpreises 2000 wurde Karl Huml Mitglied des Nachwuchskünstlerprogramms der Kölner Oper. Danach wurde er an der Kölner Oper unter Vertrag genommen, wo er 2001/2002 die Rollen von Moor in Faust (Louis Spohr), Zweiter bewaffneter Mann in Die Zauberflöte, Lt Ratcliffe in Billy Budd, Herald, Farfarello und Creonte in The Love spielte für drei Orangen, Schlemil in Hoffmanns Erzählungen, Graf Laertes in Die Spieler (Juraj Benes), Cadmus / Priester in Semele und Der Henker in Das Nush-nushi (Hindemith). Im November 2008 sang Karl Huml Daland in Die fliegenden Höllander im Barbican.

In 2000, he competed in the Metropolitan National Grand Finals in New York. Equally at home on the concert platform, Karl Huml’s credits include Mozart’s Requiem with the Sydney Symphony (2003), Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with the Melbourne Chorale, Haydn’s Mass in Time of War and Bruckner’s Te Deum for the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Society and Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the National Boys’ Choir.

Karl recently made his debut at the Salzburger Festspiele as Ortel in a new production of Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg as well as in the premiere of Il Trovatore at the Wiener Festwochen singing Ferrando. He made his debut at Teatro San Carlo in Naples singing 5th Jew in Salome. Other recent engagements include 5th Jew in Salome in both Hamburg and Brisbane, Il Frate in Essen, Inigo Gomez in L’heure Espagnole and Zuniga in Carmen in Vienna, Sparafucile in Rigoletto in Perth and a return to Bremen as Don Quichotte.

2016/17/18 seasons include The Nose at Neue Oper in Vienna and in Budapest; Osmin Entführung, Alaska Wolf Joe in Mahoganny, Ermione and Candide in Rostock; Baruch’s Schweigen” and Pallas Athene weint in Vienna. Albert Herring and Faust in Florence. Tschik in Hagen and Werther and Lady Macbeth from Mtsensk in Klagenfurt.
