Winner of the Helpmann Award for Best Male in an Operatic Feature Role for his performance as Alberich in Opera Australia’s 2013 Bi-Centenary Cycles of Der Ring des Nibelungen in Melbourne, Warwick Fyfe was born in Canberra.
His other awards have included a Bayreuth Scholarship, a Churchill Fellowship, a Green Room Award and the Leopold Julian Krönenberg Award at the Stanislaw Moniuszko International Vocal Competition.
Following studies at the Victoria College of the Arts, he joined Victorian State Opera’s Young Artist Program and became an Opera Australia Young Artist, subsequently becoming a principal artist. His current repertoire includes Don Pizarro Fidelio, Dr Schön Lulu, Peter Hänsel und Gretel. Tonio Pagliacci, Scarpia Tosca, Mandryka Arabella, Faninal Der Rosenkavalier, the title roles in Falstaff and Rigoletto, Giorgio Germont La traviata, The Dutchman Der fliegende Holländer, The Herald Lohengrin, Fritz Kothner Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Alberich Der Ring des Nibelungen and Wolfram von Eschenbach Tannhäuser.
Warwick Fyfe’s concert engagements in repertoire including Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiemand Orff’s Carmina Burana have taken him to orchestras such as the Adelaide, Melbourne, Singapore, Sydney, Tasmanian and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Society and the Warsaw Symphony Orchestra.
His recordings include The Love for Three Oranges (Chandos CD) and Der Rosenkavalier (Opera Australia CD / DVD).
Highlights of 2014 / 2015 included include Bluebeard Bluebeard’s Castle with the Monash Academy Orchestra, Leporello Don Giovanni for New Zealand Opera, Amonasro Aïda for Opera Australia, Daland Der fliegende Holländer for Victorian Opera and Mahler Symphony No. 8 with the Orchestra of the Music Makers, Singapore.
Current engagements include his UK operatic debut as Lindorf /Dr Coppélius/Dr Miracle/Dappertutto The Tales of Hoffmann with English Touring Opera, returns to Opera Australia as Dr Bartolo Il barbiere di Siviglia and Paolo Simon Boccanegra and Alberich Der Ring des Nibelungen and his debut with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra as Alberich Das Rheingold.
